This reportable component allows platform managers to add a combined date and duration component to activities to capture multiple day classes more accurately and efficiently.
For instance, if a user completes a 40 hour course, he can submit 1 completion on Friday and in that action, be creating 5 completion records (Monday-Friday) for 8 hours each. Similarly, using this component, users could record a single completion for a 2 day class with durations of 2 hours and 5 hours, respectively.
The Multiple Day Duration component is useful when tracking training that takes place over multiple days.
The Date Complete and Duration components are intended to capture single day training. Once you add the Multiple Day Duration component, these components will become unavailable.
When adding the Multiple Day Duration component to an activity, you have several settings options for both the number of days over which the activity took place, as well as the total duration and per-day durations.
When allowing user input, the minimum and maximum allowable days can be set.
When selecting the "Use only the following input" option, the number of days can be predefined for users completing the activity.
When allowing user input, the minimum and maximum duration per day can be set, as well as the minimum and maximum total duration over all days.
Note that you do not have to set both a minimum and maximum duration. For instance, you can set a maximum of a 40 duration, but set no minimum duration.
The "Use only the following input" option allows the total duration to be predefined for users completing the activity.
Completing Activities with the Multiple Day Duration Component
Depending on the settings chosen for this component, users will experience different options. To see the user experience when your options are selected, we recommend that you set up an activity with the component and then use the Preview function.
Once an activity with the Multiple Day Duration component is submitted by a user, multiple completion records are created for the designated days.
For instance, a user completes a 40 hour course and submits a single activity completion on Friday, October 13. Using the Multiple Day Duration component, they enter the following:
Upon submission, 5 completion records will be created. Each will reflect the date, time and duration filled out during completion, but the remaining components will be identical.
